I recently started re-reading one of my textbooks from college. If I remember correctly, this book was suggested reading material and I am certain that I did not dedicate enough time to understand all of the meaning that the author was trying to convey.
Whether we will admit it or not, we may not always be ready to receive something into our lives, but that does not diminish its value for us if it is a biblical and moral truth. The ideas found in this book is an example of truths that I was not in a place to receive a few years ago, but now they have become a great challenge to my heart.
For those of you who may be interested, the book is entitled Western Christians in Global Mission, and it is written by Paul Borthwick, a man that has dedicate the majority of his life to global mission work. I intend to consider a few major points from his book and leave them here for your consideration.
While the book is about global missions, we must first understand who we are in Christ so that we can be fully effective in our witnessing. In the foreword of the book, a East African Revivalists is quoted,
"At the foot of the cross, the ground is equal."
I want us to fully grasp the significance of what the author is trying to tell us. He is reiterating to us the truth in John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
God's desire is that all men be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Tim 2:4).
This is all tribes, all nations, all ethnic groups, all people, they were all created in the image of God and at the very heartbeat of God's desire. We have a unique opportunity to spread the Gospel of Christ not only from a place of knowledge and understating, but from a place of experience.
What is your story? What is your "good news?" Share that with the world for all to hear. We have been given a great responsibility from Christ to spread the Gospel, but we also have been given a great promise from Christ as well. In Matthew 28:18-20, Christ tells us that if we go in His power and authority to tell others about Him, that He would be with us always, and that is something we can take great comfort in.
Who are we in Christ? We are a great testimony of His grace and power!
